Our Founding Vision (1996)

EcoLights was established by our parent company, Total Reclaim, with a clear mission: to address the critical need for safe and effective recycling of mercury-containing lighting. From the beginning, we invested in advanced processing technology to ensure every component of a lamp—glass, metal, and mercury—could be recovered and reused, setting a new standard for the industry.

Becoming a Trusted Government Partner (2001-2004)

Our expertise and commitment to compliance quickly made us the recycler of choice for the public sector. We were awarded the inaugural mercury lamp recycling contract by the State of Washington in 2001 and by the State of Oregon in 2004. These partnerships led us to open our Portland facility, expanding our capacity to serve the entire Pacific Northwest.

Investing in Innovation & Safety (2009-2012)

Driven by growing demand, we continuously modernize our operations. In 2009, we installed state-of-the-art processing equipment to enhance environmental protection and worker safety. In 2012, we doubled our capacity with a second processor at our Seattle facility, empowering us to recycle over 6 million lamps annually.

Empowering Every Community: LightRecycle WA (2014-Present)

A landmark moment in our history came with Washington’s product stewardship legislation. We were chosen as the exclusive recycler for the LightRecycle Washington program, making free recycling accessible to every resident and small business in the state.

• We built and manage a network of over 200 convenient drop-off locations.

• We developed a streamlined system to ensure a constant supply of recycling kits.

• Most importantly, we have recycled over 1 million lamps each year through this program alone, preventing harmful toxins from entering our environment and fulfilling a vital public need.
